Academics
In an age when current political agendas are increasingly driving school reform, educators, parents, students and the community need to work collaboratively now more than ever to meet the demands of the No Child Left behind Act and to increase the annual yearly progress of their students. In order to achieve what we see as our mission (See Mission Statement) it is necessary for the District to have high educational standards in all of our schools and to make sure that the dream of the No Child Left behind Act becomes a reality.

In Connecticut this year, the Connecticut Academic Performance Test (CAPT) has become a high stakes test, meaning that graduation is now pinned to passing the writing and math portions of the test beginning with the Class of 2006. Students in the class of 2008 and beyond must past all four sections of the test (Math, Reading, Writing, and Science).
Each district was charged with the task to determine how to count the CAPT in graduation requirements as well as a contingency plan for those who are unable to meet the standard. Bloomfield High School will require students to reach the proficiency level (Band III) on the designated test sections to meet the requirements. Students who will graduate in the year 2006 and 2007 will earn .1 credits for reaching proficiency in the writing and math portions. Student graduating in 2008 and beyond will earn .1 credit for each section upon reaching proficency. All students who fail to meet the goal must retake the test during the junior year and if necessary must complete a subject specific project during the senior year to meet State requirements.
