What's Cooking in STEAM?
This year Metacomet Mustangs are being immersed in STEAM--that's Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math. Throughout the week, they have a their Special class with Ms. Davis, with a focus on the Engineering Design Process, culminating in their participation in the Connecticut Invention Convention. In addition, they are learning the fundamentals of writing computer code. (That's right! They're learning how to program!) They have ongoing projects to integrate the arts and sciences to help them collaborate in teams and persevere to solve hard problems.
In the ESD Program (Extended School Day) students delve even deeper into STEAM by participating in "hands-on, heads-in" projects. They are learning to apply the five steps of the design process so that they can solve real-world problems. They are often up and moving while finding ways to solve the challenges before them. Whether building the tallest towers or the strongest platforms, they are learning to create and test their own designs. An outstanding team of Bloomfield teachers is working with Academic Specialists from the Boys and Girls Club to keep every student engaged and growing every day.
