STUDENTS BRING HOLIDAY CHEER TO THOSE IN NEED
Students from The Bloomfield Alternative Academy collected approximately 295 toys from local businesses and community organizations this holiday season. The effort, which began as a community service project, turned into a labor of love for the youth. The students created flyers to distribute and festive holiday boxes to deliver to participating merchants.
“Our kids have experienced many growing pains which led them to our program, so I would like to take the time to tell everyone about the kids’ shining moment,” stated Bloomfield Alternative Academy Coordinator Lisa Vallera. “We are extremely proud of their efforts in developing and implementing a toy drive in the town of Bloomfield.” The students’ initial goal was to collect 100 toys but with their perseverance and great business skills they surpassed their goal.
The students delivered 240 toys to End Hunger Connecticut in Hartford. Additional toys were also delivered to Bloomfield Social Services. Thanks to the following local businesses for making the toy drive a success: American Eagle Federal Credit Union, The Gym, Gold’s Gym, Pocket Wireless, Community Solutions, Inc., Three Brothers Restaurant, Bloomfield Village Pizza, Williams Service Center, Milano’s Salon & Day Spa, Town & Country Package Store, The Prospect Café, Bloomfield Board of Education, Paradise Restaurant, Prosser Library, State Farm Insurance, and Connecticut Podiatry Associates.
