Greetings from the Superintendent of Schools
Dear Families, Students, Staff and Community Members,
It is with great excitement that I welcome you back for the 2015-2016 school year.
Although we are off to an earlier start than usual, Bloomfield Public Schools has laid the ground work for another successful year. You may have heard the good news about Bloomfield Public Schools in the media recently, highlighting our progress towards closing the academic achievement gap. The Hartford Courant notes, “dramatic improvements” for Bloomfield Schools and the Connecticut Council for Education Reform describes Bloomfield as "a success story."
These accomplishments are guided by the successful implementation of our District Accountability Plan. This blueprint provides us with the vision, theory of action and priorities that are based on the community’s shared beliefs.
This year, we will continue striving for the next level of work. We encourage you to read our District Accountability Plan - Annual Report and learn more about how we are improving our teaching and learning strategies to have a significant impact on the future of Bloomfield’s children.
As the district continues its trajectory towards higher achievement, it is important to reiterate that we are extremely appreciative of the excellent work going on in the classrooms. Our schools and programs have what it takes to prepare our students for college and careers of twenty-first century.
I would also like to acknowledge the continued support of our families, community and staff. Organizations that are successful are the ones that work together to achieve a common set of beliefs and goals. We hope that you will share in our common purpose: to increase student achievement.
In this school year, we will continue to execute our mission, and our vision, by reinforcing high expectations and strengthening our adult work.
We are raising the bar on expectations – and it is indeed taking us far! I look forward to another great school year!
James Thompson, Jr., Ed.D.
