Donald F. Harris, Jr., Chair
Donald Harris has been active in Bloomfield for many years, most recently as the town’s deputy mayor. Mr. Harris is a past principal of Bloomfield high school, vice principal of Carmen Arace middle school and director of athletics. Mr. Harris is also a graduate of Bloomfield high school and earned a bachelor’s degree from Springfield College, and master’s degree and sixth-year administration certificate from the University of Hartford.
Additionally, Mr. Harris is the past president of the Bloomfield chapter of Rotary International, he has served on the board of Directors of the Literacy Volunteers, Graylodge Shelter for Women, Seabury, and the Amistad Center for Art and Culture.
Michael R. Walters, M.S., M. Ed.- Vice Chair
Michael is a veteran educator, human resource professional and public speaker. He has been a resident of Bloomfield for approximately two decades. Michael is a graduate of North Carolina A&T State University, Cambridge College and the University of New Haven. He has also been accepted into the doctoral program for education at Northeastern University.
As a seasoned Vice President of Human Resources, Mr. Walters has lectured to business, educational and community groups instilling motivation, communication skills and organizational effectiveness. Additionally, he facilitates lectures on Valuing Differences, Managing Diversity, EEO, Affirmative Action, Organizational Development and Employee Relations.
Mr. Walters has served on numerous community boards such as the Board of Director of the Women’s League Child Development Center; Board of Trustees of Jumoke Academy; American Society for Personnel Administration; American Society for Training and Development and the Board of Directors of the Weekly “Black Perspective” Television Program at Connecticut NBC.
Lesley Mara - Secretary
Lesley D. Mara was elected to the Board of Education in November 2011. She and her husband have lived in Bloomfield for 20 years and they are raising two school-aged children. Ms. Mara is a graduate of Smith College, cum laude, with a dual major in German and Government. She received her law degree from The University of Connecticut School of Law with honors in 1986. After practicing for several years as a trial lawyer, Attorney Mara focused her career on children’s issues. She has held a number of leadership positions relating to children. In state government, Attorney Mara was appointed Deputy Commissioner of the Department of Children and Families and then later Superintendent of the Connecticut Juvenile Training School in Middletown, Connecticut. She also served as National Executive Director of Lawyers for Children America, a non-profit program that provides legal representation to children in abuse and neglect cases in Connecticut, Miami and Washington, D.C. Most recently, Attorney Mara served as Deputy Secretary of the State.
For the past 6 years, Ms. Mara has volunteered her time as Vice Chair for the Alliance for Bloomfield’s Children, an organization created to engage parents to improve services and opportunities for children birth to eight in Bloomfield. She is also a PTO member and gives her time as a classroom and field trip volunteer in her children’s schools.
Howard Steven Frydman
Howard Steven Frydman has served as General Manager and Executive Director of Bloomfield Access Television for the past 28 years. Mr. Frydman has worked in the field of television, radio and print media for over 35 years and has coordinated many local and statewide public events. Mr. Frydman has also served politically in various elected positions including: Bloomfield Library Board of Director, Selectmen, Registrar of Voters and Justice of the Peace. Howard additionally serves on the Board of Directors for Bloomfield’s Continuing Education and Bloomfield Federation Homes. Howard was a founding member of the Bloomfield Winterfest/Light Up The Town Holiday Event.
His movie, theater and food reviews have been syndicated in several newspapers in Connecticut including: "The Airport News" the official newspaper for Connecticut's Bradley International Airport, The North Central News, CT Business Journal, Bloomfield Messenger and BATV. He is the recipient of the Connecticut "Hometown Hero" Award, Connecticut Jaycee Outstanding Citizen Award and the National Army Citizen Service Award. A Graduate of Central Connecticut State University majoring in Sociology and Bloomfield resident for over 55 years.
Robert W. Ike
Robert Ike has served as a Bloomfield Board of Education member for 12 years. Mr. Ike attended Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia and Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut. He is currently serving as Commissioner of the Bloomfield Housing Authority and Chairman of the Bloomfield Republican Town Committee. Mr. Ike has served on the Bloomfield Town Council and volunteered as part of the Bloomfield Library Board, the Bloomfield Parks and Recreation Committee and as Secretary of the Carmen Arace School Building Committee.
Reverend Michael C. Williams is a native of Shreveport, Louisiana and a 20-year resident of Bloomfield, Connecticut. He is a graduate of Northeast Louisiana University of Monroe, Louisiana; a graduate of University of Connecticut School of Social Work; a graduate of Trinity College of Vermont; and, a graduate of the University of Connecticut’s School of Business’ Executive Program in Managed Care. He is an ordained clergy.
In addition to his ministerial responsibilities, Reverend Williams is the Regional Administrator of the Department of Children and Families region 4 which includes the Hartford and Manchester area offices.
To complement these efforts, Reverend Williams serves as the President of the Christian Activities Council, a board member of Achieve Hartford the Hartford Local Education Fund, an appointed member to the State of Connecticut's Commission on Health Equity, Beta Sigma Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Inc, a member of the Beta Tau Boule and participates in many other community activities in the greater Hartford area.
Michael is married to Lynda Hunter-Williams and has three children, Oscar, Romarius and Tiffany and two grandchildren, Journee Renee and Sahrye.
