This is an important message to parents, guardians and students regarding outdoor activities on school grounds or at school sponsored events. Due to the continued threat of mosquito borne viruses such as the Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) virus, the Connecticut Technical Education Career System (CTECS) is issuing the following recommendations for all students to prevent mosquito bites:

  1. Wear long sleeves and pants when weather permits;
  2. Apply insect repellent containing DEET (supplied by the parent) before engaging in outdoor activities.The repellent and insecticide Picaridin, can be applied to clothing to protect through several washes.For both products always follow the directions on the package.
  3. Minimize outdoor activity from dusk to dawn when mosquitoes are most active.

The mosquitoes that carry the virus are active until the first heavy frost.
