Laurel Literacy Academy continues to shine as a hub for community connection and celebration. On October 16, 2025, the school hosted its annual Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration, welcoming more than 200 students, families, and community members for an evening filled with joy, culture, and togetherness.
The event showcased the vibrant traditions of Hispanic and Latinx communities through domino games, salsa dancing, hands-on crafts, storytelling, and delicious food. Families shared in the excitement as students explored new activities, danced to lively music, and learned more about the cultures represented in their school community.
This celebration reflected Laurel’s ongoing commitment to family and community engagement, a core district priority that emphasizes building strong partnerships between home and school. Events like these help foster a welcoming environment where all families feel valued, seen, and connected to their children’s educational experience.
Principal Jennifer Dwyer expressed gratitude for the overwhelming turnout and the collective spirit that made the night so special: “It was wonderful to see so many families come together to celebrate culture and community. Our goal is to create experiences that bring joy and pride to our students and their families, and this night truly did that.”
Laurel’s Hispanic Heritage Month event is a shining example of how schools can create meaningful opportunities for families to engage, connect, and celebrate the diversity that strengthens the Bloomfield community.
