Kindness Day

On December 15, the entire Wintonbury Early Childhood Magnet School community came together to promote, participate in, and celebrate acts of kindness. This meaningful event has been a cherished Wintonbury tradition since 2015, originally established in remembrance of the Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy and as a way to teach children that even small acts of kindness can grow into a lasting culture of peace.

Throughout the day, students and staff focused on spreading kindness and joy, reinforcing the message that kindness matters. Through these intentional acts, members of the Wintonbury community—both children and adults—experienced feelings of being welcomed, appreciated, accepted, and loved.

In the days leading up to the celebration, classrooms secretly prepared surprise acts of kindness for another class or a staff member. Students proudly created handmade gifts such as bracelets, cards, playdough, and ornaments. Other classrooms shared a favorite story, performed a song, or invited peers to join in a special play-together activity. Each gesture was thoughtfully planned and rooted in generosity and care.

Wintonbury’s annual Kindness Celebration continues to be a powerful reminder of the impact kindness can have, especially when nurtured at a young age. Through these experiences, students learn that kindness is not only something we practice—it is something we become.
