As we enter the height of cold and flu season, district officials are reminding families of the importance of keeping students healthy and preventing the spread of illness in schools. Maintaining a safe and supportive learning environment for all students remains a top priority, and the district appreciates the continued partnership of families in these efforts.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to closely monitor their children for symptoms of illness and to keep students home when they are not feeling well. Attending school while sick increases the risk of spreading illness to classmates and staff.
Please keep your child home if they are experiencing any of the following symptoms:
Fever of 100.0°F (38°C) or higher within the past 24 hours
Persistent cough, difficulty breathing, or shortness of breath
Vomiting or diarrhea within the past 24 hours
Sore throat, especially when accompanied by fever or swollen glands
Severe headache, body aches, chills, or fatigue
Any symptoms of contagious illness, such as pink eye or an unexplained rash
Students should be fever-free without the use of fever-reducing or cold medications for at least 24 hours before returning to school. In cases where a child has been prescribed antibiotics, families should ensure the student has taken the medication for a minimum of 24 hours prior to returning.
The district also encourages families to reinforce healthy habits at home, including frequent handwashing, covering coughs and sneezes, avoiding face-touching, and getting adequate rest.
Bloomfield Public Schools thanks families for their cooperation and shared commitment to keeping schools safe and healthy. Parents and guardians with questions or concerns about symptoms or school attendance are encouraged to contact their school nurse for guidance.
