JROTC

The Army JROTC program at Bloomfield High School delivered an outstanding performance at a regional drill and ceremony competition held April 9, 2026, at James Hillhouse High School.

The event brought together JROTC units from across the region to compete in multiple categories, including Drill Team, Color Guard, and Individual Drill—common competitive components of JROTC programs nationwide that emphasize precision, leadership, and teamwork.

Bloomfield’s Drill Team captured 1st place overall, executing a highly demanding routine featuring more than 30 drill commands. Led by Cadet Anniyah Henry, the team demonstrated strong leadership, precise alignment, and synchronized movements throughout their performance.

The school’s Color Guard Team also earned 1st place, showcasing excellence in presenting the national and organizational colors with proper cadence, crisp execution, and disciplined coordination.

Individually, Anniyah Henry placed 3rd out of more than 60 cadets, highlighting her skill and composure in a highly competitive field.

JROTC, a federally sponsored high school program under the United States Army Cadet Command, focuses on developing leadership, citizenship, and character through structured activities such as drill competitions, academic challenges, and community service .

The Bloomfield teams received high praise from military leadership. According to a high-ranking official in Army Cadet Command,

“BHS Drill and Color Guard Teams never looked better! 1SG (R) Grant did an amazing job with identifying, evaluating, and training BHS Drill and Color Guard teams. They performed with absolute discipline, precision movements, and were 100% in unison for the entire routines.”

The success of Bloomfield’s cadets reflects both rigorous training and the broader impact of JROTC programs in school districts—helping students build confidence, discipline, and leadership skills while competing at a high level.
