On June 4, Bloomfield Public Schools and the Bloomfield Public Library welcomed more than 200 students, families, staff, and community members to Prosser Library for Bloomfield Literacy Night, an evening dedicated to celebrating literacy, learning, and community connections.
The event served as the official kickoff to the 2026 Summer Reading Program and provided families with opportunities to explore reading in fun and engaging ways. Participants completed a Literacy Night activity checklist, visiting stations throughout the library to qualify for raffle prizes. Activities included arts and crafts, read-alouds, summer reading registration, community resource tables, photo station, snacks, and a visit to the Read to Grow Bookmobile where families were able to select and take home free books.
Special thanks to our featured readers, Dr. Tracy Youngberg, Superintendent of Schools, Lynette Easmon, Board of Education Chair, and Elizabeth Lane, Library Director, who shared stories with families throughout the evening.
The success of the event would not have been possible without the support of our many partners and volunteers. Bloomfield Public Schools extends sincere appreciation to:
Bloomfield Public Library and the Prosser Library staff: Nicole Dolat, Donna Merritt, Allison Wilkos, and Elizabeth Lane
Read to Grow and the Read to Grow Bookmobile
Bloomfield Public Schools staff and volunteers
Community Resource Partners who shared information with families: Bloomfield Adult Education, The Family Resource Center (FRC), Alliance for Bloomfield's Children (ABC)
The Bloomfield Lions Club for generously sponsoring snacks
The Hartford Yard Goats for providing raffle prizes
All volunteers who helped with setup, activities, registration, read-alouds, and clean-up
The evening showcased the power of community collaboration and a shared commitment to fostering a love of reading and lifelong learning among Bloomfield students.
