Agriculture Students Floral Design

Bloomfield High School UConn Floral Design students had a fantastic opportunity to learn from one of the most respected names in floral artistry.  Ruth Loiseau, is a nationally recognized Master Designer who served at the White House for over 28 years, beginning with the Reagan administration and continuing through the Clinton, George W. Bush, Obama, and Trump administrations.  Loiseau brought her wealth of knowledge and artistry to the classroom by leading students through a hands-on master class in professional floral design. During the session, students crafted elegant pink and white-themed bridesmaid bouquets using a refined selection of flowers including pink lisianthus, spray roses, ivy, and eucalyptus.  Students applied essential design techniques like balance and proportion to create cohesive arrangements suitable for high-end weddings.  This experience provided a rare glimpse into the level of professionalism and creativity required to design for dignitaries and global leaders.

Ruth Loiseau shared heartfelt stories about her time at the White House designing for prestigious state dinners, official holiday extravaganzas, and high-profile White House visits.

In addition to her White House service, Ruth Loiseau is a successful entrepreneur, managing multiple floral businesses and regularly lecturing across the country. Her ability to balance national service, business ownership, and educational outreach makes her a true inspiration to aspiring floral designers. The experience provided a rare glimpse into the level of professionalism and creativity required to design for dignitaries and global leaders.

“We were honored to welcome someone of Ruth’s caliber into our program,” said the agriculture instructor. “Her experience and mentorship left a lasting impression on our students, showing them what’s possible when passion and professionalism meet.”

The Bloomfield Agriculture Program continues to offer unique and industry-relevant experiences to students, preparing them for successful careers in horticulture, floral design, and beyond.  Loiseau looks forward to working with floral students on design projects related to wearable flowers and permanent botanicals in the future.
