
Monday's district convocation was the last one for both Superintendent Dr James Thompson and Bloomfield Board of Education Chairman Donald Harris. Both have served the district with distinction and are retiring this year after 12 years of service.



Bloomfield Public Schools Convocation 2023 was an ideal time to welcome back staff for the start of a new school year, Wednesday, Aug. 30.
Attendees heard from administrative and staff leaders, listened to four successful Bloomfield High School alumnus talk about the value of a BPS education and congratulated district 2023 Teacher of the Year Kimberly Thode from Wintonbury Early Childhood Magnet School.

Mark your calendar: Sunday, September 10, at Rockwell Park Field, Rockwell Avenue in Bloomfield, the Save Our Schools for Our Kids Foundation is sponsoring its annual Back-to-School event, from noon to 4 p.m. The goal of the event is to inspire, encourage and create a positive environment for all children, including those dealing with special learning challenges. Backpacks and school supplies will be available.

Free meals for ALL students this year: Enrolled students at Bloomfield Public Schools will receive a free healthy breakfast and lunch at school during the 2023-24 school year. Your children will not have to pay a fee or submit an application.
This free-meals program is part of a national program, known as the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP).

Summer Leadership Institute - school principals and leaders reviewed data and discussed strategies to improve student performance and school cultures.

Congrats to Anne Burrows! BHS' head girls track & field coach has been awarded the 2023 CT Girls High School Track & Field Coach of the Year by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
This is the fourth time Coach Burrows has won the award, which recognizes leadership and a team’s overall success in a season. In the past 10 years, the BHS girls track & field team has won 17 state championships.


Wintonbury Early Childhood Magnet School recently involved families, staff and a local business in a “Wintonbury Outdoor Work Day” beautification project. Volunteers helped to prepare the campus’ outdoor learning spaces for the start of school. They assembled new garden beds, weeded and filled them with soil donated by Flamig Farm in Simsbury and refreshed courtyards. A core theme at Wintonbury is Scientific Inquiry.

Raeann Gilbert, a graduate last year from the Bloomfield Adult Education program, has received the GED Graduate of the Year Award from the GED Testing Service, in Washington, DC.
The award is bestowed to a GED graduate in New York, New Jersey or Connecticut who has displayed exceptional resilience in achieving their academic credential.
She was presented with a $1,000 scholarship, at the GED Annual Conference July 19 in New York City.


Congratulations to Anjanee Wright, our new District Coordinator of Extended Learning and Family Community Engagement. She will be a key liaison to our families and will play a lead role in establishing programs to better serve them.
