The BHS AP English Literature class visited the Yale University Library alongside librarian Mr. Staton and AP English teacher Mrs. Baker.
BHS AP English Literature students explored the “Unfurling the Flag: Reflections on American Patriotism” exhibition, analyzing how themes of loyalty and national identity have developed through print culture, storytelling, and enduring national myths. Through close engagement with archival materials from Yale’s special collections, students examined how ideas of belonging and patriotism have been represented and reshaped within American culture.
BHS AP Literature students followed the Farmington Canal to explore the historic “Elm City,” gaining insight into how industrialization shaped the lives of migrant workers. At their final stop on Mansfield Street, students reflected on the American Dream through the perspective of a Great Migration migrant, engaging in discussion about opportunity, identity, and resilience.
What a performance by the BHS Music Department this evening! 🎶 A huge thank you to Ms. Clayton and Mr. Murphy for your dedication, passion, and commitment to spotlighting the incredible talents of our student musicians. Bravo to all of our talented performers for an unforgettable evening! 🎼✨

Congratulations to the Bloomfield High School Army JROTC cadets on an outstanding performance at the April 9, 2026 drill competition at James Hillhouse High School!

The Drill Team earned 1st place overall, the Color Guard Team also took 1st place, and Cadet Anniyah Henry placed 3rd in Individual Drill out of more than 60 competitors. Your discipline, precision, and teamwork truly stood out.

Bloomfield Public Schools: Preparing for State Assessment Season

As we enter state assessment season, Bloomfield Public Schools is proud of the growth our students have demonstrated throughout the year. These assessments are an opportunity for students to show what they know and help us better support every learner.
We know testing can bring a mix of emotions. With the right support, students can approach assessments with confidence and a positive mindset.

What Families Should Know
State assessments measure progress in areas such as reading, writing, science, and mathematics. They are just one part of your child’s overall learning.

How Families Can Support at Home
• Prioritize rest and routine: A good night’s sleep helps students stay focused.
• Encourage a positive mindset: Emphasize effort over perfection.
• Be on time: Arriving at school ready helps students start calmly.
• Plan for breakfast: A nutritious breakfast supports focus—students may eat at home or take advantage of breakfast offered at school.
• Stay connected: Contact your child’s teacher or school for specific testing dates and any questions.

Our Commitment
Our educators are committed to creating supportive environments where students feel prepared and confident. Thank you for your continued partnership in supporting student success!

Metacomet was filled with excitement on April 6 as Bloomfield High School students visited in celebration of Read Across America Week!

For the past four years, this meaningful partnership has brought high school students—many of whom once attended Metacomet—back into our schools to share their love of reading with younger learners. Seeing former students return as positive role models continues to be a special experience for both staff and students.

The district extends its sincere thanks to Bloomfield High School staff member Maria Trabal and Library Media Specialist Kevin Staton for organizing this wonderful visit.

It was a great day filled with inspiring stories, smiles, and a shared love of books!

We have seen some confusion regarding the closing of Carmen Arace Intermediate School (CAIS). CAIS will close at the end of this school year as part of the district’s 2026–2027 reorganization plan.

Beginning next year, Metacomet Elementary will serve grades 3–5, and Carmen Arace Middle School will serve grades 6–8. This shift supports declining enrollment, improves efficiency, and creates more developmentally appropriate learning environments.

For full details, please visit the district website and view the “Superintendent’s Update” in the News section.
